The Abu Dhabi Municipality, in collaboration with the traffic and patrol services of the Abu Dhabi Police, initiated the replacement of traffic guidance signs leading to the airport here.
The new road signs reflect the recent renaming of “Abu Dhabi International Airport” to “Zayed International Airport”.
Ads by Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) are heralding the official renaming, a fitting tribute to Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the visionary founder of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Marking a significant milestone, the new nomenclature will come into effect on February 9, 2024, synchronizing with the grand opening of the airport’s state-of-the-art Terminal A.
The official announcement of this momentous name change coincided with the commencement of flights from the new Terminal A. This cutting-edge terminal has already catalyzed a three-fold increase in flight frequency and global connectivity compared to its predecessor, with flights now reaching 117 destinations worldwide.
While the official inauguration of Terminal A is slated for February, the terminal saw its first commercial flight on October 31, 2023. Operated by UAE’s national airline, Etihad Airways, the Airbus A350-1000 embarked on its maiden journey bound for New Delhi, setting the stage for a new era in aviation excellence.
