Changi Airport Opens New Wellness Space in Terminal 2

Singapore’s Changi Airport has introduced a new wellness space in Terminal 2’s transit area, designed to help travelers relax and recharge during layovers. Opened by Changi Airport Group on February 17, the Fit&Fun Zone spans over 400 square meters on level three of T2 and offers a range of activities to combat travel fatigue.

Five Activity Zones for Relaxation and Movement

The Fit&Fun Zone is divided into five interactive areas, each designed to provide a unique experience for travelers.

  • Green Zone: Features six swinging pendulum chairs with a view of Dreamscape, a digital garden with a sky ceiling, fish, and over 20,000 plants. This area offers a peaceful retreat from the airport’s busy environment.
  • Orange Zone: Provides a fun way to de-stress with soft punching bags and interactive three-dimensional petal structures for jabbing.
  • Pink Zone: Includes pull-down levers connected to weights ranging from 2kg to 8kg. When used, light balls in the area change colors, adding a playful touch to the workout.
  • Yellow Zone: Houses five trampoline pods, each 3 to 3.5 meters tall, equipped with sensors that play music when travelers step inside.
  • Blue Zone: Features a nature-inspired rope maze designed to encourage exploration and curiosity.

Built to Improve Travelers’ Well-being

Changi Airport Group spent seven months transforming the space, which previously housed game consoles, into the new wellness area. The initiative is based on research showing that movement can enhance mood and help passengers feel more refreshed while traveling.

“The Fit&Fun Zone aims to boost travelers’ spirits through simple exercises and activities, without requiring a gym or spa visit,” said the airport operator.

Expansion of Terminal 2 and Other Airport Enhancements

The opening of the Fit&Fun Zone follows the reopening of Terminal 2 in November 2023 after a 3.5-year expansion project. The renovation added 21,000 square meters to the terminal, increasing its passenger capacity to 28 million per year, making it the largest terminal at Changi Airport in terms of handling capacity.

Other parts of the airport have also seen upgrades. Since September 2024, Terminal 1’s transit area has welcomed new shops, an expanded selection of food and beverage kiosks—including Crave Nasi Lemak, A Noodle Story, and The Hainan Story—a redesigned playground for families, and a new snooze lounge with views of the tarmac.

Mixed Reactions from Travelers

While some passengers appreciate the Fit&Fun Zone’s interactive features, others feel it may be more of a photo spot than a practical relaxation area.

Information technology consultant Dudley Lin, 34, noted that families with children may enjoy the space due to its visual and sensory appeal. However, he personally would not use it, as he usually feels well-rested before flying.

Lau Zhau Yue, 26, a frequent traveler between Singapore and Germany, expressed a similar sentiment. She prefers to catch up on sleep before flights and sees the wellness space as something she would explore only briefly.

With its new wellness-focused offerings, Changi Airport continues to enhance its reputation as one of the world’s most passenger-friendly airports, catering to a diverse range of travelers and their needs.
